|1. Stop the Loss||✔️Tenants Protections: "I support intensification in the downtown core to discourage urban sprawl and make more housing available to residents. But existing tenants should be allowed to either keep their homes, or be moved to ones in the same neighbourhood, at the same rent. Increasing supply alone will not increase affordability. We need deeper investment in affordable and moderately priced rentals, to ensure that Somerset Ward remains a diverse and thriving community."||✔️Housing Acquisition: "I am particularly passionate about this issue, as renovictions and demovictions are a major problem in Somerset Ward."|
|2. Create More||✔️Inclusionary Zoning: "Yes! We don't want to see another Herongate situation, where tenants are displaced from affordable rentals and then offered apartments at $2,700/month to move back into. The definition of "affordability" needs to be truly affordable to working class people, and those living on OW or ODSP."||✔️Increased Budget: "I also have experience from my years working at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities advocating to the federal and provincial governments for more money for social/deeply affordable housing. The city cannot do it alone, but we can do more."|
|3. Preserve the Quality||❓Landlord Licensing: "I need to learn more about this one before I respond definitively, but I do agree that we need better rent control and enforcement of property standards."||
✔️Ombudsperson: "This kind of arms-length watchdog could be very helpful."
