Endorsement Quote: "I have supported "Starts With Home" campaign for quite some time. It bring clear action plan on a critical issue in Ottawa. The 3 pillars (Stop the Loss, Create More, and Preserve the Quality) are clear and direct. I have spoken to at least 2 of those pillars in my own presentations to the Planning Committee."

1. Stop the Loss ✔️Tenants Protections: "My only quibble is landlord registry is around owners who are renting out only one unit. They are not the biggest landlord issue we have right now. I would add their registration in year 3-4 of the program once the corporate and multi unit landlords have been registered. These landlords do not have professional staff to help them comply with paperwork. I expect the city would need to hire summer students to help with a blitz to get these landlords registered. (An exception: if there is a bylaw action item that should trigger a requirement to register within 30 days.)" ✔️Housing Acquisition: "Here my only concern is that we support multiple non-profit housing providers rather than just a few. I would rather see the renters involved in decisions so providers should remain human sized. A massive non-profit is not going to make decisions the same way a small renter-led board would."
2. Create More ✔️Inclusionary Zoning: "I am worried about the number of units which are already in the pipeline where Inclusionary Zoning Policy cannot be applied. We need to move to enact this policy as soon as possible." ✔️Increased Budget: "I agree we need the 30% target for Indigenious peoples. We likely need other (smaller) targets for specific communities. I would want to know demographics of those housed and unhoused to ensure we have not build bias into our housing strategy. I am certain we need to have a target of how many new units builts are fully wheelchair accessible."
3. Preserve the Quality ✔️Landlord Licensing: "Yes, I favour a licensing approach. I need to see a more detailed outline and implementation plan to get fully onboard. My concerns would be on how to improve the idea to make it easier to implement. i.e. how long landlords have to register, the amount that can be borrowed, the requirement that improvements funded met green housing standards, how amount is repaid, etc
"
✔️Ombudsperson: "I support the idea.. Depending on who is elected as mayor, this idea may take shape in several ways. I await the outcome of the election to see how central housing will be to the new mayor's visions. It will remain central to my own vision for the Ottawa of the future. I would rather fight for housing than fight for a housing ombudsman."
