1. Stop the Loss ✔️Tenant Protections: "I understand raising the rent (within the legal limits and within reason) to cover the increasing costs associated with property tax, utilities, etc but evicting somebody solely for the purpose of doing a few upgrades and putting the property back on the market just to increase your profit margin doesn't sit right with me." ✔️Housing Acquisition
2. Create More ✔️Inclusionary Zoning: "I genuinely believe that in all new developments we should have roughly 1/3rd of the homes be dedicated to income-based affordable housing. Nobody should ever have to choose between putting food on the table or a roof over their head." ✔️Increased Budget: "Getting more individuals off the streets and into homes will likely ease the pressure on our emergency services and various other city-provided services offsetting that increased cost of housing."
3. Preserve the Quality ✔️Landlord Licensing: "Having a landlord register for a rental license (with or without a fee) would allow the municipality to ensure both the landlord and the tenant are satisfied with all aspects of the agreement and that these properties are properly maintained." ✔️Housing Ombudsperson: "Having an independent housing ombudsperson would be a great tool to ensure that the city council and our partners are staying on track and making progress toward ensuring that all of our residents have a roof over their head in a quality home at an affordable rate."
