Endorsement Quote: "Part of the reason I want to be a councillor is the opportunity to work with organizations like Starts With Home to give members of our community a real action-plan to end homelessness."
|1. Stop the Loss||✔️Tenants Protections: "Many people end up without a home because they do not understand their rights as tenants. It is time to stop giving landlords easier ways to kick people out of their homes and raise rent. Housing policies and laws should be accessible and understandable to everyone. Renovictions and demovictions are a growing issue that we've seen across Ottawa- from Manor Village to Herongate- this should not be happening. Everyone deserves to stay in their home."||✔️Housing Acquisition:"More and more people cannot afford current housing prices and are turning to non-profits for help. Everyone deserves a home and non-profits provide real ways of getting one. Therefore the city should do whatever we can to support initiatives like these."|
|2. Create More||✔️Inclusionary Zoning: "Ensuring that there are permanent affordable units is a priority for me, which is why I am committed to advocating for an inclusionary zoning policy of at least 25% that would see all new residential builds in proximity to transit hubs include at least 25% affordable housing."||✔️Increased Budget: "Indigenous peoples make up a major portion of homelessness in Ottawa. Indigenous communities are being left behind and forgotten by all levels of government. I am committed to being a city councillor who fights for EVERYONE. Everyone deserves a place to call home, and the systemic racism that has led to homelessness rates among Indigenous peoples needs to be called out, addressed and corrected."|
|3. Preserve the Quality||✔️Landlord Licensing: "It's important that landlords have proper licensing before renting because they have the obligation to maintain the homes they are renting. No one should live in an apartment if it is not properly maintained (which is currently an unfortunate reality for many)."||
✔️Ombudsperson: "Yes- Independent and trustworthy investigations into misconduct of any sort by landlords needs to be facilitated in any way possible by the city."
